Approximately 1 million United States patients lose their doctors to suicide each year. Medical liability litigation is a major stressor and contributes to this epidemic of physician suicides. It is one of many factors contributing to a highly toxic practice environment leading approximately 400 US doctors per year to take their own lives. This podcast provides an excellent presentation of the nature and depth of this problem. I am the president of DoctorLifeline.org, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation dedicated entirely to the prevention of physician suicide. We will refer doctors and other interested people to this podcast as a valuable educational resource.
